Another new painting. This one is about music and dance again and is a composition relishing the effect music has on our moods. Acrylic. 58 x 58cm.
Working on a new painting at the Open Studios
This weekend – 8th & 9th June is the first of two weekends of Horsham Open Studios. I shall be at the lovely location of Farlington School near Horsham with 5 other artists and makers. This historic building is now a girl’s school but they have kindly let us transform their library into an exhibition […]
Art Fair at Goodwood Racecourse coming up
Very close now to the Sussex Art Fair at Goodwood Racecourse 17th – 19th May where I will be on stand 49. There will be seven new paintings plus eight from 2018. My latest picture is called “You make me want to dance” and is a celebration of music and the way it makes us […]
How a simple picture morphed into something else
Do other artists finish a painting and then start all over again? I had one of those moments after I’d finished “Gathering Lavender”. I walked around it, turned it upside down and generally lived with it for a week. But somehow I just wasn’t happy with it. Throwing caution to the wind I painted over […]
Seaside hazards
Had some fun with my latest painting. Called “Smash & Grab”, this acrylic is about the growing boldness of seagulls who spot their next victim and swoop down to share a delicious ice cream. Fun, yes, but also a nuisance. 42 x 59cm.
Two more paintings in the “Keep it Simple” series
The first of these is called “Waiting” and the second is “Picking Lavender”. Both are 32 x 32cm oil on wood.
Yellow Chair
The third of my larger paintings this year is an oil on board again and at 90 x 60cm, a bigger statement but in a simpler style. How hard it is to shut out the everyday and enjoy the moment!
KISS
When I started to work out the composition for some new paintings this year, I was reminded of that very useful piece of advice when it comes to communication – KISS. (keep it simple, stupid). Having spent an enjoyable day at the London Art Fair, I was struck by how effective some of the simpler […]
Drawing morning at the National Ballet
I had a wonderful morning at the Coliseum in London where I was able to draw the National Ballet warming up for their matinee performance of the ballet Manon. Quite a challenge to get something down on paper whilst so much was going on. The action was so fast that a few strokes to get […]
Dancers at the Alcazar
I have just finished this painting inspired by my visit to Saville, Spain last year. The Alcazar Palace was full of history where it had been used in many different ways. I wanted to try and convey this sense of history and peeling back the layers. Mixed media on canvas. 60 x 75cm SOLD
