When I started to work out the composition for some new paintings this year, I was reminded of that very useful piece of advice when it comes to communication – KISS. (keep it simple, stupid). Having spent an enjoyable day at the London Art Fair, I was struck by how effective some of the simpler paintings were – leaving more to the imagination. The following 2 paintings have been done with this thought in mind. Working on a bigger format of 90 x 60cm in oils on board, I have revisited 2 of my earlier compositions and kept out all the details and drilled down into what I am really trying to say in the simplest way possible. It felt quite a relief to scrape back to essentials and because they are large, their impact is greater. I hope you agree!
