In the piazza

An Italian scene. The relaxed, local Italian taking her dog for a walk and stopping to meet a friend after buying essentials at the market. Her friend from the north is buying presents and savours a moment to show off her smart clothes. Acrylic on wood  34 x 34cm

Best moments 1

I asked lots of people about their best moments when they were a child or when they grew up and spent time with their children. The result was some lovely thoughts that people generously share with me. Enough for a whole series of paintings – hence this is number one. Acrylic on canvas 34.5 x […]

About me

Hi, my name is Angela and I love to paint contemporary narrative art of people and nature.

Friends

Homage to Tamara de Lempika. The closeness of their friendship is evident in the jigsawing of their bodies and the quiet acceptance of their togetherness. Oil on canvas 30 x 30cm SOLD

Inside Outside Theatre

The Globe Theatre is a very unique experience and I thought about the scenes that went on where it is partly indoors, coupled with the people outside, who are also partly under cover acting out their dramas too. The paintng that resulted was a montage of drawings that I had done outside the theatre with some […]

They stayed until sundown

A picnic at Ditchling Beacon was the inspiration for this painting. I started to think about all the people who were there during that lazy summer day and how many animals were in the shadows, waiting for their turn to claim that very spot. Watercolour crayons & gouache  39 x 45cm

Best thinking time

I have some of my best ideas when I’m doing routine tasks. This woman clipping the hedges is in the moment, absorbed in her task. SOLD

Horsham after the rain

Sometimes I like to sketch something in pastels and this little picture was the result of sitting in the Carfax at Horsham with my pastel box. I wanted it to stay fresh, so I did not attempt to stylise it or redo it in oils or acrylic. 30 x 30cm SOLD

A moving experience

Oil on canvas  76 x 50cm This was inspired by my own move from Buckinghamshire to West Sussex. As well as being a big wrench after many years of family life, the two people flying away at the top of the painting are liberated by less to do and a new beginning.

Winners and Losers

We all know them. They are there to WIN. Others are there for the fun. This painting is all about the different motivations we have when we do things. SOLD
